• PhD Position in the Laboratory of Forensic Genetics, University Center of Legal Medicine of Lausanne, Switzerland
  
  
  • A PhD position is available for an excellent candidate with strong qualifications and high motivation to conduct research in forensic and population genetics. This particular project focuses on the study of a new compound genetic marker developed by the laboratory. This marker is specifically designed for resolving DNA mixtures. It contains a slowly and a rapidly evolving polymorphisms, characteristic that open several fields of investigations.
  • Highly motivated candidates with a Master’s degree in Biology, Criminal Science or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Previous experience in molecular biology (DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, capillary electrophoresis) is a prerequisite. Knowledge of basic tools for the analysis of population genetic variation is welcome. A strong interest in research toward applications and good organizing and communication skills are important.
  • The research will be conducted at the Laboratory of Forensic Genetics (UGF) (www.curml.ch/) under the supervision of Dr. Diana Hall (senior scientist) and Dr. Vincent Castella (Head of the laboratory). We offer excellent working conditions and a state-of-the-art infrastructure in a highly dynamic and international environment at the forefront of research. The topics of the project related to medical issues will be conducted in collaboration with several units of the University Hospital of Lausanne.
  • Starting date will be early 2012.

• Research assistant (Droit médical et médecine humanitaire)
  
  
  • We are looking for advanced research assistants with interest in one or several different research areas (ethics, health law, humanitarian law and human rights, and/or the areas of the before mentioned research projects) and with experience in scientific publications in English, and if possible French and German reading abilities. • Offre de place de stage de Master à l’Unité de Toxicologie et Chimie Forensiques (UTCF), site de Lausanne
  
  
  • Stage non rémunéré de niveau Master d’une durée de 6 mois.
  • Le stage étant en collaboration avec l’Unité de Médecine Forensique, l’étudiant recruté sera également amené à travailler parfois en salle d’autopsie pour assister aux prélèvements c’est pourquoi une certaine maturité et autonomie seront un atout.
  • L’étudiant devra avoir des compétences en chimie analytique (Chromatographie en Phase gazeuse couplée à la Spectrométrie de Masse: GC-MS) ainsi qu’en technique headspace.
  • Période du stage envisagée: Mars 2012 – Septembre 2012, ou 1^er trimestre 2012 (à convenir) pour une durée de 6 mois
